Big Losses from Costly District Doctors

Today is National Doctors' Day – so designated to honor our nation's physicians.

Big Woooo!
   Every day
is Doctors Day at the tax-funded North Broward Hospital District*, where the average district-employed physician enjoys an annual salary of $500,000 – some 77% more than he or she earned five years ago. (*dba as Broward Health)
   Like....
                                    2004             2009      CPI - 14%
District Employed
Physicians
                  19                  38                     100%
Total Salaries             $5,400,658    $19,147,508     255%
Per Physician             $284,245        $503,881         77%
Patient Visits              88,502           171,859            94%
But – given how Broward sits on the western edge of the Devil's Triangle – the tax-funded District's numbers become even more bizarre the closer you look.

For example, during the five years between 2003 and 2009 the North Broward Hospital District lost an average of:
($424,754) per doctor employed by the District
($96) per patient visit to a District doctor

  That said, i
t gets even better.

And/or worse.

Like in the current fiscal year (2010), the District expects to lose:
($456,385) per doctor employed by the District.
($103) per patient visit to a District doctor.
     And finally...

While the Broward Health receives nearly $190 million in tax dollars for indigent health care each year, few uninsured and/or indigent patients are cared for by the District-employed doctors.

Anyhow, to all my fellow tax-paying North Broward Hospital District residents:
  Happy National Doctors' Day!
